Review - clip hair canada/cliphair uk 18" Double Wefted Full Head Remy Clip in Human Hair Extensions - Jet Black (#1)
Continuing my quest to find decent, yet "affordable" human remy clip in hair extensions, my next test involved cliphaircanada .com. This site is an extension of cliphair. co.uk. Affordable in quotes, as that word has many different meanings to many different people.
I've taken a screenshot of the webpage, from cliphaircanada, of the very set of extensions that I ordered.
18" Double Wefted Full Head Remy Clip-in Human Hair Extensions. In the colour Jet Black or #1.
As you can see, in the screenshot below, the term "Remy" appears four times. In four locations, I am being told, that the human hair pictured, is, in fact, remy human hair. In two of those four locations, I am being told, that it's not only remy, but 100% remy human hair.
For the price of $154.99 CAD...I am, in fact, expecting actual remy human hair. Maybe not thee highest quality remy human hair, but remy nonetheless.
So...let's see, what did I end up with...?
The extensions arrive in a standard extension bag with a cardboard sleeve. This packaging was folded in half and squeezed in to a basic plastic envelope, with no extra protection added, for it's journey to Canada. Despite the website being called cliphaircanada...these extensions do, in fact, ship from the United Kingdom.
Again, we see on the back of the cardboard packaging, "Our extensions are made from 100% Remy Human Hair..."
The total weight of the extensions set, including clips, lace and thread, totals 177.2 grams.
Each clip weighs 0.8 grams. There are 18 clips in the set, totaling 14.4 grams. The weight of the clips alone would bring the total weight of actual hair down to 162.8 grams...and then you would have to factor in the weight of the lace and thread as well.
I would put expectations, of actual hair weight, in and around the 150 - 160 grams mark, to be realistic. However, the set is advertised as 170g and that is technically what you are receiving.
The length, advertised as 18", is actually slightly longer than that. These extensions are not full from top to bottom. They start to thin out around the 10" mark.
The construction of the wefts is fine. There is lace, which I do appreciate. These extensions are sewn in very large, long batches and then cut to size, (width). The entire weft, along with the lace, is cut after being sewn together. This type of construction is faster, I'd assume, but it can also lead to some problems.
With the wefts being sewn on to the lace, in large lengths and then cut to size, they are just left as they are and clips are sewn on to each piece. There is no sealing applied after the cut, (width). Because of this, as soon as I opened the package, entire chunks of hair were just slipping out of the wefts. This did not stop, even after their first wash, I was still getting chunks of hair just sliding out of the weft, (see below).
This can be alleviated by sealing the wefts yourself...but I don't think we should have to resort to doing that.
As time goes on, with wear and with washing, the lace and the wefts will continue to deteriorate and this problem will likely continue.
And finally....the answer to the main question...
Are they 100% Remy Human Hair?
No. They are not.
If they lied about that...what else might they have lied about? Are these clip-ins made of entirely human hair?
I cannot, in all honesty, recommend these clip-ins to anyone.
These are not worth $154.99 CAD in any way. And to top it all off, there were duty/custom fees on top of that price. Which just makes the purchase that much worse, in my opinion.
$176.46 CAD, after all was said and done, for non-Remy clip-ins with chunks of hair sliding out of the wefts for 155 grams of hair...never again.
