- Personally signed letter from Kat Von D
The case that's included in this collection is beautiful, esthetic wise. Very sleek, very pretty. Usable? I'd say that remains to be seen. I'm not sure, personally, what I would use this for.
The case measures approximately 19"L x 11"W x 1.5"D
It's not especially sturdy or cushion-y feeling, so if you were thinking maybe to protect a laptop or something, I dunno. There's also no handle. It comes with a removable tassel on the zipper that has "Kat Von D" monogrammed on it.
The interior of the case has two pockets sewn in, to the underside of the top.
The collection is very well packed inside of the case. All palettes and brushes are cozy and very snugly fit in to a velvety insert. The moment, when you unzip the case, and see all the items presented to you, it is a moment for any makeup lover/collector. And it should be, for the amount of cash that you just forked over in one shot.
The packaging of each palette is quite substantial feeling. They each have some decent weight to them. The front/top of each palette, the font is raised...they're all stunning, to be honest. I was very impressed with the actual palette packaging. You really feel like you are holding something of significance in your hands while handling these.
The Shade + Light Contour Palette is refillable. There are little holes in the back of the palette, where you can pop out each pan of either highlight or contour, to replace that shade when needed. Always handy, and a nice feature of this palette. The chances of anyone hitting pan on all shades at the same time are pretty much nil, so, I fully appreciate being able to replace shades as needed.
There are two dual-ended brushes included in the collection. Both of these brushes can be purchased separately, just as everything else in this set.
I'm not a huge fan of dual-ended brushes, and they'd definitely not be something that I would go out of my way to purchase separately, ever. It's more about the storage of dual- ended brushes for me. Pet peeve, I suppose. As well as, dual-ended face brushes tend to have an unbalanced weight to them that makes them slightly more difficult to use. That aside, the brushes themselves, a quite soft and of good quality.
The cases that house the dual-ended brushes are cute, coffin shaped and plastic. They don't feel especially fancy or of high quality...and in the end...they'll just collect dust. For myself, they serve no purpose, other than the initial presentation of the brushes.
The breakdown of this collection (in CAD):
- Shade + Light Face Contour Refillable Palette $64.00 CAD
- Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette $55.00 CAD
- Shade + Light Eye Contour Quad - Plum $34.00 CAD
- Shade + Light Eye Contour Quad - Smoke $34.00 CAD
- Shade + Light Contour Brush $43.00 CAD
- Shade + Light Eye Contour Brush $35.00 CAD
- Total: $265.00 CAD
You're not necessarily saving big dough on this collection...well, you're not saving anything, really. This collection would be mostly for the collector or for someone who might not have any of the products included in this set. It might depend if you hold any value in owning a collector's edition of Kat Von D products or just having her autograph. Although, I have read that some people weren't receiving their signed note in their sets. May be something to keep in mind. Mine did come with the "signed note", but if it hadn't, I would have sent it back.
In the end, I didn't already have any of these products. It might have been nice, if the price were maybe $230.00 CAD or around that price point, just to have a tiny sense of "Woooo! It's a steal!" but, what can ya do? I had my eye on the two contour palettes for quite awhile, so when this collection came out, I figured why not. I am very happy with it and the presentation of the set was a nice experience.
This set would make any makeup lover quite happy, if it happened to be wrapped under a tree somewhere, on December 25th!
