TOPBOX - January 2017
TOPBOX is a monthly beauty subscription service that retails for $12.00 CAD per month. Shipping is free. It generally contains 4 products, ranging from deluxe sized sample to full sized.
Manna Kadar Beauty Paradise Blush
Description: By popular demand, the Paradise Blush was taken from the Day Dream Palette and was created as an individual blush. The vivid cherry blossom pink powder blush creates a beautiful glow to the face.
- Can also be used as an eyeshadow
- Custom formulation offers a special light texture which glides on smoothly and evenly
- Provides the perfect amount of color
- Highly pigmented
- Universal shade
- Paraben Free
- Cruelty Free
I also received this exact blush in my ipsy subscription this month. Bummer. Regardless, this blush is quite pretty. I've swatched next to some of my most similar shades in my collection. You can see it closely resembles NARS Orgasm. This blush is more powdery than the NARS, however. Manna Kadar is also made in China, whereas NARS is made in Canada.
Manna Kadar Paradise Blush retails for $19.00 USD and can be purchased from their website.
Darphin - INTRAL Redness Relief Soothing Serum
Description: A high potency, soothing serum for sensitive skin that reduces the appearance of redness, softens, and leaves a comforted, more even-looking complexion.
High potency, soothing serum helps reduce the appearance of redness and quiets discomfort associated with irritated skin while delivering a sensual experience. With its proprietary calm complex (including chamomile, hawthorn, and peony extracts) and glycosaminoglycans, this delightfully scented formula softens sensitive skin and leaves a comforted, more even-looking complexion.
The full size of this serum comes in 1 oz. & 1.7 oz and retails for approximately $105.00 CAD & $145.00 CAD, respectively. This 5 ml sample size holds an approximate value of $17.50 CAD. I haven't, yet, tried out this serum. I making my way through many new options for skincare and I test each out, one at a time. I might bump this product up on my list though, just to see if it does work. I do have a fair amount of redness to deal with, but I don't actually think it's related to rosacea. I'll give it a whirl, and update this page.
Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat
Description: Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat is widely acknowledged as the world's finest top coat. Its patented formula penetrates through the nail lacquer to the base coat forming a single solid coating over the nail plate for a much more durable finish, guaranteed not to yellow and leaves nails silky, stronger and resistant to chipping and peeling.
Seche Vite can be purchased in a boat load of places, both online and locally. Well.ca, nailpolishcanada, Real Canadian Superstore...you can find it all over. The prices vary, however, for the full size, (14 ml), from approximately $8.95 CAD to $12.49 CAD...I've even seen it for over $14.00 CAD is some places. This 3.6 ml sample size holds an approximate value of $2.30 CAD.
I'm probably in the minority on this one. I've never tried this topcoat, despite all the hype it gets. I did put it on one nail the other day, and noticed that it pulls while drying, so that's concerning. We'll see. I'll put it to the test the next time I do my manicure.
Voesh New York - Pedi Mud Masque in Olive Sensation
Seems these Pedi Mud Masque's only come within an entire pedicure kit and are not sold separately. The claims on the kit state:
- The cleanest and most hygienic Spa Pedicure solution.
- Enriched with key ingredients to give your feet the nutrition it needs.
- Each product is individually packed with the right amount for a single pedicure.
- Set Includes Sea Salt Soak, Scrub, Mud Mask, Massage Lotion.
Again, I haven't tried this product yet, and will have to update in the future. Since these masque's aren't sold on their own, it's hard to determine their value. But, based on the approximate price of a kit, ($11.85 USD), these three packs hold an approx. value of $3.95 USD...I think?
ddm Cosmetics - Matte HD Liquid Lipstick
I ordered the Topbox Beauty Surprise, which is occasionally offered to subscribers for an additional $10.00 CAD. It gives you a random beauty product for 20% - 90% off. The item sent to you is random and is added to your regular Topbox shipment.
It's hit or miss, because it's a "mystery". This time around, I was sent a liquid lipstick from DDM Cosmetics and a sample size bottle of Garnier Micellar water. Which is fine. Didn't blow my hair back, but it wasn't a let down either....
That is, until I went to open the liquid lipstick. When I opened it, I could feel the top struggling to twist on the threads of the neck of the tube. I immediately thought, "Uh oh..." and sure enough...it seems I was sent a used tube of liquid lipstick. There was product around the outside edges of the threads of the tube and all the product around the inner rim was all dried up and crusty and flaky. If it wasn't actually pre-used, then the packaging needs some serious help. But, in my opinion, this lipstick has absolutely been previously opened and used by someone else.
I'm not impressed.
I swatched the lipstick on my arm, just to show the colour. But, that doe-foot applicator is going nowhere near my lips. It's going straight in the garbage can.
I took pictures of the neck of the tube. You can see below. There's dried up product all on the outside, the inside, as well as in the threads of the top with the doe-foot applicator. There's little fibres and hair-looking-things dried in there too.
I can't really hold either Topbox or DDM Cosmetics accountable. But, as a first impression of a brand...it really couldn't go any worse. You can't get that first impression back.
This liquid lipstick retails for $18.00 CAD. It can be purchased from their website. I can't not recommend, and I can't recommend either. I just don't know how this product performs, and I never will. The shade seemed pretty.
Garnier SkinActive Micellar Water - All-In-1 Cleansing Water
Description: Micellar cleansing water removes makeup, cleanses skin, eyes and lips without rubbing or rinsing. Like a magnet, the micelles capture and lift away dirt, oil and makeup, leaving skin perfectly clean and refreshed without over-drying.
No rinse. Face, Eyes, Lips, No Alcohol, No Oil, No Fragrances
Tested under dermatological and ophthalmological control, Non-greasy, Gentle on eyes, Non-comedogenic.
Garnier Micellar water isn't new to me. I've used both of their versions in the past and I tend to keep their waterproof version on hand. I like them both, but I still hold Bioderma in the number one spot for micellar water. The price on the Garnier micellar water is much friendlier, however. It varies depending on where you buy it, but you can find it at some stores for approximately $7.97 CAD for 400 ml. This 125 ml sample size holds an approx. value of $2.49 CAD.
So, as far as my "Beauty Surprise" went...I was basically "surprised" with a $2.49 sample of micellar water....except I paid $10.00 for it.
Aside from the Beauty Surprise fail, the actual Topbox subscription came to a total approximate value of $49.82 CAD. For $12.00 CAD, that's pretty decent. I'm happy with the subscription, itself, this month. I'd just like to hop in a time machine and not bother with the Beauty Surprise.
Did you get Topbox for January 2017? How did yours go for you? I'd love to hear your experience!
